Puppies, puppies and more puppies

It's been quite the household these last few 13 days.....Piper gave birth to 5 pups.  It was an amazing experience for us all as we witnessed all of the births (well, one we missed).  Aiden found Piper in her kennel on Friday morning and he came upstairs and told us that there was a pup.  We were so excited and the kids were extatic.  So the excitment began, Jay was there first and then me helping Piper.  Keegan was really late for school that day but how often does your dog have pups???  Of course there is a sad part to my story.  There was one "runt" in the litter.  Trooper was so tiny and I was quite scared for him so we brought him to the vet.  They warmed him up and gave him some sugar water.  I bought puppy formula and started to feed him but syringe.  He really perked up when I did that.  I would also take the healthy pups and put them in a basket do that Trooper would be able to get to Piper and drink her milk.  It worked for awhile but yesterday monring, he passed away as Piper cried over the edge of the pups pen.  Piper knew exactly what was happening.
Keegan did not take the news to well.  I have never heard him cry so hard in his life.  He was crushed.  Jay and I decided that we should really do something besides throwing Trooper in the garbage,  give him a bit of dignity.  So Jay dug a hole in the far corner of the yard and we had a funeral for Trooper.  Lots of tears were shed, even Jay and I could hardly contain our emotions.  I think it was just that Keegan found it so hard and we felt awful for him.  We explained to Keegan (Aiden and Sarah too, they weren't as crushed)  that Jesus needed a puppy in heaven.  There are little children up in heaven that love puppies too.  So Trooper in ruinning around with his new owner in heaven.  I think one day Keegan will be able to fully understand that death is actually part of LIFE.  It really sucks (tween talk).  Just thinkof what we have to look forward to when we go to heaven.
Here is something that Keegan wrote, one way he gets out frustrations......

Trooper was my favourite puppy. After I heard he died I cried for about 15 minutes it was a very sad. That was the first time I heard or saw something dead

I remember having the runt of our German Shepherd's litter die when I was around 10 or 11. It was traumatizing to me too.
It's good that he is expressing his emotions.
Those puppies sure are cuties!!!
